Land of Dogs in Bosnien Herzegowina
A few weeks ago we heard about a heartbreaking story that touched us deeply: Eni and Dzevad rescued dogs abandoned in a garbage dump in Bosnia and Herzegovina and founded the animal shelter “SRCE ZA ŠAPU” (“Land of Dogs”).
For more than seven years, Eni and Dzevad have financed their facility on their own and under great deprivation and lovingly looked after the needs of the animals.
The shelter now consists of three houses. The kennels are surrounded by courtyards for playing and romping. This shelter concept allows each animal to move freely and socialize with people.
In addition to these facilities, the shelter has a quarantine station with 10 kennels, a small puppy station and a dog reception and bathing facility, which is currently also used as a storage room and kitchen.
In cooperation with the contractual veterinary station, Eni and Dzevad take care of the health care of the animals, treat dogs against intestinal and external parasites and organize the treatment of sick animals. Neutering campaigns are carried out and surgical treatments are offered to those in need who have animals.
Land of Dogs has a work permit confirming that the shelter meets the requirements prescribed in the “Rules and Regulations for the Establishment and Management of Animal Shelters” in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The shelter has a TRACES licence, which allows the legal adoption of dogs to Western European countries.
The founders volunteer to take on all administrative tasks related to planning, organising and monitoring the shelter’s human, financial and material resources, promoting and establishing contacts with potential partners, fundraising, etc.
For over seven years, Eni and Dzevad have financed their facility through their own efforts and with great hardship, lovingly caring for the needs of the animals.
Foundation TAO
However, when SRCE ZA ŠAPU was about to close due to scarce financial resources, we as the TAO Foundation acted immediately and have been supporting Eni and Dzevad every month since then until the end of the year. It is a matter of the heart for us to provide the dogs with the necessary care and to improve their living conditions.
Adoption
We also encourage adoption. The dogs at the shelter “SRCE ZA ŠAPU” are looking for loving families to give them a warm and permanent home. Adoption not only changes the life of the dog, but also enriches the life of the adopting family.
